Kick by Carmen Jenner (Review & Giveaway)

Title: Kick
Series: Savage Saints MC #1
Author: Carmen Jenner
Published: January 26, 2015
Format: Ebook received for review

When I was ten, my father indoctrinated me into the family.

A brotherhood who would fight, protect, and give their lives for one another. A club whose ties ran thicker than blood, murkier than the dirt and grime that tainted my soul. Stronger than the bonds that connected me to my own family.

A band of brothers, where loyalty was kept and paid in a currency of blood.

When I was twenty-seven, I betrayed that brotherhood.

I’ve spent every day since running, avoiding paying back that debt.

My name is Daniel Johnson. I have betrayed everyone I ever loved.

And I’ll betray her too.

This is my story—if you’re screwed up enough to want to read it.

Warning: Kick contains graphic violence, profanity, drug use, and explicit sexual situations of a taboo nature. Intended for an 18+ audience only. Not intended for pussies.

I have been so ready to find a new motorcycle romance series to sink my teeth into, and I think Carmen Jenner just totally gave me that.  Ladies, Kick is very dark, raw, sexy and one hell of a hot book.

I love the broken ones because for a brief second, in the heat of the moment, I can forget how fucked up I truly am inside.  I can forget about the darkness that I crave.  I can forget who I am and focus on someone else's pain, because that has to be infinitely better than wallowing in my own.

Right away you see Kick is different than most men.  Pain and fear arouse him, but even he knows this isn't normal.  It's not exactly something he is proud of, either.  Kick is a dark man, there is no doubt about it.  Carmen Jenner wrote him perfectly, though.  Even though you know he isn't the good guy, even though you can see he isn't just another good guy dressed in bad guy's clothes, even though he has done some very horrible things,  he still isn't evil. Especially notas evil as he feels he is. And in a lot of ways, I think Kick found a lot of redemption of himself in this book.  He grew beyond the biker, and found the man.
Even though you know he is honest to goodness bad - you still like him.  At least I did.  I still felt connected to this man.

Her surrender is the only religion I need.

The woman who sparks that change in him is a woman who was just rescued from the very mouth of evil.  She underwent things that would make most people rather be dead.  She lived through actual horror.  Indie, or at least that is what Kick calls her, is suffering.  Hell, so is Kick.  But these two come to a closeness that isn't planned, or even healthy, really.  But it feels right.  They see the good in each other, and sometimes, that's really all it takes, isn't it?  I really like Indie.  She wanted to give up, and god knows how in the world she didn't, but somehow she came out the other end of the devil's plaything as a stronger woman.  She takes her world into her own hands, and knocks it out of the park.

So the story... Kick is in a motorcycle club, and through a certain set of events, they are hunting down the devil for vengeance.  And that's what brings Indie and Kick into each other's lives.  While the present story is being told, we also get to go back a couple of years and see exactly what happened to Kick to bring him to his current reality.  And let me tell you - it is harsh.  As far as dark goes, it's pitch black.  Not only that, it is heartbreaking.  Carmen Jenner did a really good job of humanizing Kick, and making me want the best possible outcome for him.  This book deals with brutality against women, rival clubs, love, sex, and even explores friendships and family when all of that belongs to your club.  It's a raw story. But I found myself not being able to put it down.  I had to read each next page, I had to know if there was a happily-ever-after, because I'm not really sure there was going to be.  I had to know if Kick was the man I wanted him to be, and I had to know if happiness was finally going to be something in his grasp.

'Course I can't tell you all of that.  All I can tell you is that this is a book you should take a chance on.  Pay attention to the warnings, this book is definitely not for everyone.  But for people who like it dark, dangerous, so very hot and sexy, and on the edge - those people will love this book.  This book easily made my favorites list, and I'm eager for book two.

About Carmen Jenner:
Carmen Jenner is a thirty-something, USA TODAY Best Selling Author, doctor, pilot and CIA agent.  She's also a compulsive, flagrant prevaricator who gets to make things up for a living.

While Sugartown may not technically exist, Carmen grew up in a small Australian town just like it, and just like her characters, she always longed for something more. They didn't have an Elijah Cade, though.

If they did, you can be sure she would have never left.
