Marcus Borden has always been used to power and control. After a crime-filled upbringing in a very harsh neighbourhood, Borden leaves his hometown, returning four years later mysteriously rich and unrecognizable, with one woman on his mind.
A woman he'll never have.
Pained by his devastating loss and filled with rage and guilt, Borden's world turns dark.
As a fiercely independent woman, Emma Warne knows all about hard living. Having kept to herself most of her life, the last thing she expects is to be thrust into the world of infamous criminal Marcus Borden, the dangerous man the entire city fears and loathes. But the more she pushes him away, the more he comes back, taking over her life and stripping her of her control she desperately clings to.
Once Borden has his sights on her, Emma is going nowhere anytime soon, and what she doesn't expect least of all... is that she may not want to either.
Ok, before reading this book I'd never heard of this author or this book. Now I've read Borden, and I am instant fan - and eagerly awaiting book two. Borden was a fantastic story that sometimes took a route I wasn't expecting, and I loved it.
This story starts with Kate. Kate sees Marcus Borden and decides this is the night she is going to talk to him. That was the start of their.... well, everything. Those butterfly wings flapped and instantly mapped out a future that would end in a great love, admiration, and ultimately - tragedy. I loved Kate. She was much stronger than anyone gave her credit for. Her part in this story is very dark, but it is written beautifully, and you can't help but fall as much in love with her as Borden did.
Fast forward a few years, and Borden remeets Emma. Emma pushes his buttons. She's a take no shit type of girl, and I love that about her as much as Borden does. She's had a hard road, but she's not compromised herself. And I love that when the hurricane known as Borden blows into her life, she is able to recognize pretty swiftly that there is much more to the man than the rumors would have you believe. She tries to stay on the side of law-abiding goodness, but when a man like Borden makes his way into your life, you don't say no.
Ok ok... Borden. You want to know about him? Take a bad man, and put him in your brain. Got him? Ok, now add some muscle, a bunch of tattoos, a sexy as hell exterior, a brain, a cocky attitude, and the history to back his bad rep. There you have Borden. I really loved this guy. You never doubt his feelings on anything, but it's great when he plays his cards close to his chest concerning Emma. You'll see that underneath this lion exterior exists the heart of.... well, a lion. A lion who wants and deserves love.
This book is kind of crazy. There's a bit of cat and mouse, which I love. There's danger. The end is slightly cliffy, but it's not a huge thing.... well, not yet anyway. It teases of what's to come, and makes sure that there is no way that I'm not going to read it.
